Collection: Pirate Minifigures
LEGO Pirate themes
It is said that the original LEGO Pirates sets were inspired by the popular pirate movies of the 1980s, such as "The Goonies" and "Pirates of Penzance." The designers at LEGO wanted to create a line of sets that would allow children to recreate the exciting adventures of pirate life in their own homes. To create the realistic details of the sets, the LEGO designers used a variety of different materials and techniques, such as creating custom sails for the pirate ships and designing unique printed pieces for the pirate Minifigures. These sets were a huge success among children and adults alike, and helped to establish the LEGO Pirates theme as one of the most popular and enduring LEGO product lines.
The LEGO Pirate theme started in 1989 with the launch of the LEGO pirate ship: the Black Seas Baracuda - LEGO set 6285, It featured a large pirate ship with a detailed design and a crew of pirate Minifigures. This pirate ship was so successful that it has been re-released 2 times since then: set 10040 Black seas Barracuda from 2002 and the Idea set 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay. The crew and captain Red-beard have been more or less similar over the years. Next to that, there are a lot of different LEGO pirate Minifigures and adversaries that have been released over the years. From English and Spanish armadas Minifigures over islanders to mermaids and skeleton warriors. There are around 198 different LEGO pirate Minifigures, depending on what you count as a LEGO pirate Minifigure. LEGOS pirates also had an Advent kalendar edition in 2009.
LEGOS pirate themes also have an impressive amount of pirate ships and imperial flagship, from clippers, the Brickbeard's Bounty to the all-time fan favourite the Skull's Eye Schooner, LEGO set 6286.
Different LEGO Pirate Minifigures
The very first LEGO pirate Minifigure was released in 1989 as part of the "Imperial Soldiers" set. This Minifigure was a classic bluecoat soldier with a tricorn hat, a musket, and a sword.
However, it wasn't until the release of the "Pirates" sets later that year that LEGO introduced the first pirate Minifigures. These early pirate Minifigures were designed with unique accessories and features, such as hooks for hands, peg legs, and eye patches, to help give them a distinctive pirate look. Since then a lot of new Pirate Minifigures have been released typically featuring a wide range of different outfits, including pirate hats, bandanas, eyepatches, and other accessories that are commonly associated with the pirate look. They also often come with a variety of different weapons and tools, such as swords, pistols, muskets, and grappling hooks. The LEGO pirate Minifigure theme has been a part of many different LEGO product lines over the years, including the classic LEGO Pirates sets from the 1990s, as well as newer sets based on popular pirate-themed movies and TV shows, such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Ninjago.
